What is a recommendation system?
Recommendation systems are algorithms that suggest relevant items to users. Rumo is able to work not only with any type of creative content such as music, movies, podcasts, books or articles, but also with wine, food, video games, etc. If you have a catalog of items to offer to your customers, Rumo is able to make relevant recommendations from it.
Why does recommendation matter for my business?
Recommendations help build retention by providing more relevant content to your users. By offering them content they might be interested in or didn’t know existed, you allow them to expand their options and perspectives. Rumo’s transparent and easy-to-understand system allows you to build a trusting relationship with your users.
I already have a recommendation system, how can I switch to Rumo?
You can contact the company you worked with directly to find out what procedure to follow. What are creative industries? What's included in it?
“Creative industries” cover all forms of cultural and creative content. Whether it is film, music, art, literature, podcast, sculpture, etc.
How to request a feature?
To request a feature, go to our public roadmap and browse the “under consideration” and “planned” sections. If you can’t find the feature you’re looking for, feel free to click “submit an idea” and suggest the feature you would like access to.
How can recommendations be ethical?
By ethics, we mean that Rumo does not use any private data from end-users. Our recommendations are solely based on semantics and on-site interactions.
Are you doing the metadata enrichment? Who does ?
We provide two alternatives :
- Rumo offers the possibility to add plug-ins such as Gracenote’s for example. It provides metadata directly to your catalog.
- Homemade enrichment done by our editorial team from Spideo. However, it must be films or videos, as this is their field of activity.
I have a huge amount of metadata, how can I take advantage of that?
Well, it’s a good thing! By having prepared metadata, you have everything ready to start using Rumo. What are you waiting for?
Can Rumo work with any type of content?
As long as it’s possible for you to create metadata for your content, Rumo can operate with it.
Which data is used?
Rumo uses specific interactions to make its recommendations:
Can I use Rumo on multiple websites at the same time?
Yes you can. However, you must create a new catalog for each of them. The monthly quotas are applied to each catalog/environment.
How does Rumo help me understand my users?
Rumo provides this information through two tools:
- Analytics, which displays data on user interactions.
The USF (User Semantic Profile), which is a tool for visualizing user tastes.
On what personalized recommendations are based?
Personalized recommendations are based on the semantic profile. It is computed from all user interactions with your catalog.
How do I integrate Rumo? Do I have to do it myself?

How long does it take to integrate?
After these 3 steps, Rumo is ready to start recommending.
Do I need metadata to use Rumo?
Rumo works best if you do have metadata. Otherwise, we have a metadataless algorithm, “Associated” that creates recommendations based on users pattern. Check out this article to learn more about it.
In which format should be my data?
Your metadata can be in either CSV or JSON format.
How long does it take for Rumo to be effective after integration?
Rumo is immediately effective right after integration.
What is an API?
An API, Application Programming Interface, is a very useful tool thanks to which you don’t need to download anything to have access to a service. You only need to integrate 2 requests in your website’s code. For more information, check our integration workflow.
